Your milk may start to come in today, but if it doesn’t, that’s perfectly normal. The best way to stimulate milk production is by continuing to nurse frequently. “It’s not the mother who makes milk,” says Smillie. “The baby makes the milk by acting hungry and coming back for seconds if he didn’t get enough to satiate him. And by coming back for seconds, the breast is emptied more frequently, which results in faster milk production and an increase in volume.”
