Tom Guy Pettit, in collaboration with illustrator Peter O’Malley Pierson, has put together a fun children’s book that shows off a globally diverse array of animals. The excellent rhyme and rhythm of the poems in “26 Poem-Stories About Animals, A to Z, Aardvark to Zebra: Fun and Funny Poems Telling Real Stories About Real Animals” (ISBN 1470136376) will make sure the fun facts about animals are lodged in young readers’ heads.

His book fills a gap in current children’s literature which often features fictional books with animal characters that tell you very little about the animal’s biology or animal guide books which are usually scientific in nature. Light-hearted yet informative, these 26 poem-stories are fun and jovial, making these exotic animals come alive on the page for young readers.

“Since each verse-story is about a different animal, it is like an easy visit to the zoo with amazing facts and humor,” says Pettit. “And it smells better.”

Fun to read out loud and easy to memorize, the pieces in “26 Poem-Stories About Animals, A to Z, Aardvark to Zebra” will delight readers of all ages, while whimsical and engaging illustrations will spark the imagination. The book would make excellent bedtime reading materials for parents who want a rhyming story to send their young ones off to sleep.

Intended for children ages 8 to 12, the book is a welcome respite from the onslaught of fantasy children’s books as this volume is all about real animals and their real qualities. Combining basic zoology with zippy poetry, the book’s verses teach even as they rhyme.

“26 Poem-Stories About Animals, A to Z, Aardvark to Zebra: Fun and Funny Poems Telling Real Stories About Real Animals” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
