My baby boy is 3 months old and fed breastmilk exclusively.  I’ve been pumping for occasional bottle feedings since he was 6 weeks old.  Before I started using the Medela system, I was constantly shuffling bottles and bags around my freezer in whatever space they would fit.  I also had to stand there for minutes at a time looking for all of them and checking their various dates to find the oldest to use first.  As we all know, time is something that a new mom just doesn’t have to spare!

The tray included with the Medela breastmilk labeling & storage system solved this problem immediately.  I cleared off a shelf for it and because it’s so obviously labeled, I never have to guess which milk is supposed to be used first.  The fact that it fits both bottles and bags was also great.

The lids that came with the set are also really easy to use; you can set them easily for a day and time and once set, the label stays in place until next time.  The labels provided weren’t that helpful for me since I only pump milk to be used once or twice a week, but I can see how they would be very helpful for babies who need to be fed multiple bottles a day.

Pros: It’s great for organizing frozen milk and ensuring that the oldest gets used first each time.  The lids are the easiest label system I’ve seen for keeping track of time and day on a weekly basis.

Cons: The lids weren’t very helpful for me because I only feed my baby a bottle once or twice a week.  I wish two trays came with the system since each one holds only six bottles and my boy drinks about 2 bottles’ worth at each feeding.

I am currently breastfeeding my third child. Since I am a stay-at-home mom I don’t have the need to pump much. When I do pump I keep enough milk on hand to last 2-3 days in the event that I am away from the baby. I found that I prefer breastmilk bags for storing breast milk but I did like the bottles as the plastic was thin enough to make warming the milk easy. The labeling lids that came with this system are a great idea.  I loved the tray. I was able to use it with both the bottle or the breastmilk bags. I was able to just stick a new bag or bottle in the “in” side and still have the next one to be used right up front in the “out” side.  Since I don’t feed my baby from a bottle myself, I love that whoever is feeding him will easily be able to find the correct milk to be used.

I really enjoyed using the Medela Breastmilk Labeling and Storage System. I would recommend this product to any breastfeeding mom regardless of how often you pump.

Pros: Easy to use; keeps me organized

Cons: None

Rating: A
