  3. FUNNY: Bakery Creates Pastry in Honor of Beyonce's Pregnancy

File this under hilarious.

New York City’s Babycakes, a vegan bakery that creates delicious cupcakes and cakes for those with wheat, gluten, dairy, and other allergies, has created what might be the first prenatal pastry honoring newly pregnant pop star Beyonce (or the first prenatal pastry, PERIOD).

The lower east side bakery, popular among such celebs as Gwyneth Paltrow, decided to create the “baby-bump” bun—which will grow in size alongside Beyonce’s baby bump—as a funny way to pay tribute to one of their favorite singers.

“It was something fun that made us all laugh, and we just thought it would be a fun project to keep up,” said owner Erin McKenna.

Mckenna said that each week her and her staff check a pregnancy website to estimate the baby’s size (according to when she announced her pregnancy), and bake the baby bun to match the size of Beyonce’s unborn fetus.

In case you’re wondering how the Beyonce fetus pastry tastes, it’s spiced with garbanzo fava bean flour, pumpkin puree, pear puree, agave nectar, coconut oil and vanilla glaze. If that sounds delicious, you’re out of luck. The pastry is for display-only.

So how big is Beyonce’s fetus, err, pastry bun so far?

“So far she’s at 3 1/2 inches,” McKenna said. “The final bun is going to be pretty big. It’ll be a challenge.”
