NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne has gotten himself into some hot water, and we’re not sure an apology makes up for it.
On Tuesday, Kasey Kahne—who has over 100k Twitter followers—tweeted about a woman he saw breastfeeding:
“One boob put away one boob hanging!! #nasty”
He went on to say: “I don’t feel like shopping anymore or eating.”
Amidst a sea of pro-breastfeeding twitter protesters, one mom stood out and blasted the NASCAR driver for his comments, saying:
“I hope someday you have a kid and someone tells your wife that feeding your child looks nasty.
Kahne replied to the user, whose twitter handle is @knittingrad, saying , “And your a dumb b*tch.”
On Wednesday, Kasey Kahne apologized for his behavior and released a statement saying, “My comments were not directed at the mother’s right to breastfeed. They were just a reaction to the location of that choice, and the fashion in which it was executed on that occasion. I respect the mother’s right to feed her child whenever and wherever she pleases.”
Kasey Kahne went on to say: “In all honestly, I was surprised by what I saw in a grocery store. I shared that reaction with my fans on Twitter. It obviously wasn’t the correct approach, and, after reading your feedback, I now have a better understanding of why my posts upset some of you.”
Kasey Kahne also apologized to Twitter user @Knittingrad, who defended a woman’s right to breastfeed in public.
We think Kasey Kahne, who is doing fairly well in racing and is set to take over a slot with Hendrick Motorsports 2012 team (which includes a four-man team of racing giants Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr.) should learn to think before he tweets, especially about a topic as natural as breastfeeding.
