In 1997, a Danish tourist visiting New York City saw her child placed in foster care. Why? Mom went into a cafe to have some, er, cafe au lait, and left her snoozing baby outside the establishment in her stroller. Turns out, this is a common practice in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries because they believe that sleeping outdoors is good for babies (they also have lower crime rates than other countries). In the Big Apple? Not so much.
