Mackenzie Phillips

Article From Our Friends at Momversation.com

Mackenzie Phillips showed up on Oprah yesterday shilling her new memoir, High on Arrival, and talking about her alleged 10-year sexual relationship with her father, The Mamas and the Papas founder, John Phillips.  According to Mackenzie, the sexual activity was at first non-consensual and then turned consensual, culminating in the abortion of a fetus that might or might not have been John Philip’s child.

Now, we know John Phillips was a drug addict and terrible father, exposing his children to his illegal activities and being an absent parent for years at a time.  What we don’t know is if he was a incestuous rapist, as Mackenzie Phillips accuses.

When she confronted him and told him they needed to talk about how he raped her, Phillips said, he responded with confusion.

” ‘Raped you? Don’t you mean when we made love?’ ” she told Winfrey. “I thought, wow, I’m really on my own here.”

I don’t know if I believe Mackenzie, who says she wants to put a “face” on consensual incest.  On one hand, Mackenzie is a long-time drug user who has gone through therapy, and we don’t know what kind.  (Did she go through regressive memory therapy, which is known to produce false memories of molestation?)  She is obviously using this story to get back into the public eye (how else would she get on Oprah?) and sell books.  Furthermore, her father is dead, so he cannot substantiate or refute her claims.  And two of his former wives vehemently deny that the sexual relationship ever happened.
