First Lady Michelle Obama sat with daughters Malia and Sasha on Tuesday as she watched her husband become the 44th President of the United States.

The 45-year-old mother, wife, and accomplished lawyer—who sparkled in an Isabel Toledo shift dress and gold-embossed coat at the inauguration—is excited to begin her new role as First Mom.

“I envision the kids coming home from school and being able to run across the way to the Oval Office and see their dad before they start their homework. … And that gives me reason to be excited,” she said.

The first lady, whose mother, Marian Robinson, 72, will also temporarily be moving in, intends to make things as normal as possible for Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Michelle reportedly told the White House staff that the girls, who will be attending Sidwell Friends School in Washington, are expected to make up their own beds each morning (but jokingly reminded them to make hers).

“Nothing is more important to Michelle than being a good mother,” said President Barack Obama. “She works every day to instill in our girls the same values we were raised with.”
