Parenting and lifestyle expert Rebecca P. Cohen is spreading the word about the Ore-Ida Grillers, a convenient potato side dish that cooks on the grill in just 15 minutes, giving you more time to spend socializing and catching up with the family and less time running back and forth from the kitchen.

Rebecca is the author of 15 Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids and has some great ways for families to connect and have fun outside we enter this last month of summer:

  • Ask questions to inspire imagination.  Rebecca’s Curiosity Cards  offer 50 creative questions for your grilling time together, such as, “What is your favorite animal and why?, “If you could fly like a bird, where would you go?”, “What could we build with what is around us right now?” and “What do you like most about being outside?”  You’ll learn a lot about one another in very little time while having fun imagining together.
  • Variety is the spice of life.  Use side dishes to create variety and interest to your meal, such as grilled zucchini, corn, and even thickly sliced red onion that sweetens as it cooks.  Your plates will be beautiful and delicious! For an easy complement to any meal, try Ore-Ida Grillers, thick-cut potato slices that are ready in just 15 minutes. They cook directly on the grill right alongside your vegetables and protein and offer a fun new twist on the traditional spud.
  • Plant a container of veggies or herbs. You don’t need to plant an entire garden to grow fresh produce, and 15 minutes is all you need to get started.  Pick up a favorite herb or vegetable plant such as rosemary or tomatoes along with some potting soil and plant fresh produce together.  Use a planter box or container as your field and have the kids help water it daily.  It won’t be long before you are savoring the harvest!
  • Have Fun with Dips and Toppings.  Kids love to use dips, sauces and toppings on their favorite foods.  Look for options in squeeze bottles and encourage kids to decorate their grilled veggies with tasty condiments and sauces or make a smiley face in the corner of their plate to dip in while they eat. You can also let the kids prepare a toppings station filled with their favorites, such as shredded cheese, Heinz Ketchup, BBQ Sauce and more.
